Walkabout

Tomorrow morning I set off in a small car for a ten day adventure. My only real plan is to head north up the coast from Sydney and see what I can see. I want to do a bit of snorkeling and maybe get a few surf lessons on the way. I think on the first day I am just going to head to Umina Beach, probably to a Big4 park which looks very family orientated but it will ease me into the wilderness that lies beyond in the national parks which I intend to try out.

Here is a basic idea of the kind of route I think I might take, as you can see it sticks fairly close to the coast. My sister said to go inland a bit and try and experience a bit of rural real Australia, I am up for that. Small towns and shonky motels are sort of a favourite of mine.

I am not really sure what to expect from this little road trip. I will be on my own so I am hoping I don’t completely loose my mind and talk to myself for hours on end as I drive. That’s what happened in the Yellow van in the Nevada desert, you don’t really find yourself on these trips, it’s a myth. You do find yourself annoying and hungry and feeling unclean, well in my experience.

Anyway, I will try and give little updates on the way depending on the availability of wifi and such. Otherwise I will be back in town on the 10th of November. When I get back I should have a nice place in Manly to occupy with Jo Bates, sister of the infamous Adam Bates who chopped his finger off. I am very much looking forward to living in Manly by the beach, it’s been a life dream to live on the beach, I’ll only be a 5 min stroll to the beach so I am getting closer to achieving one of my dreams.

Finger Skype

As you can see Adam’s finger has not quite finished healing, but hopefully you can get an idea of how much is now missing. I am thinking of a fund raising event to raise awareness of finger related mishaps, Stephen Colbert did a lot to raise awareness of wrist injury with his WristStrong bracelets but he fell short of finger trauma. What you don’t see in the above image is Adam’s middle finger and the cut on the side of it where the saw was preparing to go through the middle knuckle.
